Week of September 29 - October 3,2014

This week we will be six weeks testing. Students will be tested on the first half of the novel "The Outsiders" by S. E. Hinton. Students should go over chapters 1-6 to be well prepared for the exam. 1st six weeks exam will be on Tuesday September 30,2014. Students will not be receiving homework for my class in order to prepare for all six weeks exams.

Week of September 22-24, 2014

This week we will be reading chapters 4-6 of 'The Outdiders' by S.E. Hinton. Students will be discussing the allure of gangs and also why kids join gangs. 

REMINDERS:

Discussion questions are due on a daily basis.

Student council meeting: Monday during 7th period.

Week of September 15-19, 2014

This week we will be reading the first three chapters of "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton.  As we analyze each character through out the chapters, we will also be discussing the rivalry between the 'greasers' and 'socs'. 

REMINDERS:

Chapters 1-3 Quiz on Friday!

Week of September 8-12, 2014

Reading:
This week will begin pre-reading activities from the novel "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton.  Students will read a brief Biography about the author: S.E. Hinton.  We will also be discussing the different and unfamiliar types of vocabulary from the novel.

REMINDERS:

• Spirit shirt money is due September 12, 2014.
• Meet the teacher night is September 9, 2014.
• Don't forget to bring your copy of "The Outsiders" by Friday!!!!
• Start working on your BLOG! If you have any questions please ask me.

Week of September 1-5, 2014

This week we will be reading the short story "The Scarlet Ibis" by James Hurt.  We will introduce symbolism as well. Students will work on an activity where they have to watch a music video and find the symbolism behind each object.

REMINDERS:

• Shirt money is due by September 12, 2014.
• Meet the teacher night is September 9, 2014.
• Don't forget any supplies needed for class. NO EXCUSES!
• Make sure all journal topics are done by Friday.
• Thursday is college shirt day.
